Welcome to my classroom webpage! My name is Kerry George, and this is the start of my 26th year of teaching. I have taught 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grades during my teaching career, so far. I have spent 13 years teaching in Tonganoxie, and 12 years teaching in DeSoto before moving here. I find teaching to be a challenging, yet rewarding career, and I am excited for the start of another year!
I grew up in DeSoto, Kansas, and loved growing up in a small town. I am the oldest of 3, and being the older sister of 2 brothers, helped prepare me for the classroom! In high school, I participated in volleyball, basketball, and track, along with being a member of the band, student government, and many clubs and activities. In a small town there are so many wonderful ways to find your niche and be a part of things! After graduating, I spent the next 4 years at Baker University, where I continued playing volleyball and running track. Once again, I enjoyed the small college atmosphere, and majored in Elementary Education.
My first teaching job was in my hometown of DeSoto, where I learned many wonderful teaching strategies, and was mentored by some fabulous teachers. After spending 12 years teaching there, my husband and I moved to Tonganoxie to be closer to my parents, and I just finished my 13th year teaching here. Have you noticed a theme yet? I love small towns, and the lifestyle associated with them.
I’m sure most of you know that I am recently widowed, but my son and I are moving forward the best we know how. My son, Brett, is a Junior at Baker University, and he is loving college life! I enjoy going for walks, and hikes, and I love traveling and spending time with our family and friends. I appreciate the opportunity to teach in this community, and I cherished raising my son in this wonderful small town atmosphere. Here’s to a great year of learning!
